I think I was born a chocoholic. I could eat a bar of chocolate at one go. Just a few years back I wasn't enjoying their taste until I had one made by my aunt. My aunt makes chocolate for a living and jokes apart they are far better than the commercial one we get in our local stores.
To lower the cost of production, like any other product in the food and beverages industry,, some factories replace the natural ingredients by artificial ones and add preservatives that will give a fake good quality. The advantage of making chocolates at home is that the high quality is assured and natural ingredients are used.
When I moved to Chennai in early Feb, I decided to experiment with my non-business skills to start a homemade chocolate business - Moira Chocolates. Within a month's time I realised I was a lousy business woman especially since half my chocolates were given away free to most; but I got an amazing review from anyone and everyone who tasted my chocolates. They could actually make out the difference between the real ingredients I use such as almonds, hazelnuts, homemade caramel etc, and the commercial artificial flavors.
While I try improving my business abilities, I feel everyone should try and make their own chocolates at home. They are easy to make and you can make flavors you enjoy. VOC Road has some great stores to buy raw materials. And a quick hint, never use milk chocolate for your cooking needs, always try semi-sweet or dark chocoalte. Milk chocolates are too sweet and almost inedible if you add a center filling.
But if you are too lazy to any of the things mentioned above, do try my chocolates :-)
