Pondicherry, being only 150 km away, and a place most Chennaiites visit approximately once a year. (you should. Its beautiful), should feature in the CFG. And CFG missed this place during the Pondy Road Trip. Go there next time.
On Rue Bussey street, aka Lal Bahadur Shastri street, is this place called Baker Street. This place serves authentic French cuisine, desserts and chocolates. Owned by partnership, at least one of whom is a big, round Frenchman, they have an assortment of quiches, breads and sandwiches, pizzas etc. For some reason, they named it Baker Street; its the street where Sherlock Holmes used to live, and their motif is a Holmes like silhouette.
We ended up there quite late in the evening, quite full from a late heavy lunch. But one does not simply take loved ones to Pondy and not take them to Baker Street. We ordered a mushroom quiche and a cheesecake. The cake was nice and soft, fullsome and sweet without the cheese or the sweetness overwhelming the palate. The quiche was big enough to be a satisfying evening snack for one moderately hungry adult. In this case, there were four of us and we enjoyed it thoroughly. The outer crust is nicely crusty and hard, yeilding to the soft chewey stuffing inside. In fact, we polished off half the cake and the quiche before we paused to take pictures.
I would also recommend their sandwiches and pizzas. I had those on my previous visits and loved them. Also awesome are the wide range of pastries and chocolates.

Actually thanks to our Asian House fiasco - few of us did visit Baker Street on Sunday after lunch before we headed back to Chennai! :)
