This is last evening's dinner. 2 of us landed at Vadapalani by 10pm & without a second thought went to Salt at Forum Mall for dinner. This place amazes me every time I have been there. Took a seat by the window looking towards Green park. Infact that particular seat too has become my favorite. Every time I go there I try different dishes n every dish turns out to be very good. Yesterday we ordered for Chicken Dhamaka for starters. It comes with 2 pieces of 3 different kebabs. It had chicken zaffrani kebab, kalmi kebab n Chicken Sheek Kebab. All 3 kebabs were different from each other & all tasted brilliant. I wonder how they are managing to get such succulent tender pieces. Full marks! For main course we ordered Parotta, Roti n Kal Dosai along with Chicken Railway Curry. No idea why it was named so. It had a lot of South Indian Flavor, Mildly spiced n tasty. Here again the chicken pieces were very good. Ordering a curry n side dishes is a tricky affair. Any wrong pairing the whole experience will go bad. North Indian curry may not go well with Idli dosai parotta appam, similarly a south Indian curry will not go well with Roti naan kulchas n stuff. But like how Indian railway connects the length n breadth from north to south, east to west of this country, the chicken curry worked brilliantly with Roti,Parotta n Kal Dosai! Nothing out of place! It's named aptly. Roti,Kal dosai n parotta were all good too. My only wish the parottas could be little more fluffy. It kinda looked too thin for me. End of it we were stuffed to brim n there wasn't space for dessert ! Total came to Rs.970 incl of Vat,st n sc. VFM I would give 9.5/10

This was yesterday. 2 of us went nt to Salt at Forum Mall. Been there few times before n I like their food, service n ambiance. Since it was week day it wasn't crowded. We ordered Galouti Kebab. I expected it to be small. But they served 4 big pieces with paratha. It was a meal by itself. It didn't taste exactly as TGKF kebabs but good in its own way. Then ordered 2 rotis with Nalli Rogan josh. 2 chunks of Nalli bones... I love this dish. Then chicken biriyani. It was mildly spiced (Lucknow biriyani kind) n succulent pieces of chicken. I enjoyed but the other person said it's less spicy!!! Some want their biriyani spixy! It was a very filling n tasty dinner. Bill caime to 1192 incl of taxes n 10% SC. Since the service was polite n attentive I didn't make any fuss abt it. I guess they give 2 hrs of parking lot fee as discount, which is nice! Didn't avail it since I didn't have a vehicle. Overall I would give 8.5/10.

The 1st time i heard a friend mention the restaurant "Salt", immediately this Tamil proverb echoed in my head "uppilla pandam kuppaiyile [ a dish without salt belongs in the trash can]. And I was curious and looked for an opportunity to do Lunch here. So, few weeks ago when a friend who was moving out of Chennai buzzed asking if we could do a lunch before she left, with another friend of mine as well, I suggested Salt. None of us had been there and so it worked out perfectly. We reached Forum mall, and made our way towards the Escalator near the Cookie man stall at the far end of the ground floor. And up we went 2 floors which is where Salt is located. I was pleasantly surprised as the decor was very South indian- Karaikudi, and a bit of Kerala. There were tables and then there were these cool booths near the windows. Tall backrest straight from Karaikudi region and comfortable seats, it was where we sat. Within minutes, a waiter came with a bowl of these colourful fryums arrived along with the menu. 2 of us veggies decided to try the Bento Box [a set meal/set menu] priced at Rs265 it started with a soup and then came the box that contained the entire meal. The other friend opted for rice and a prawn gravy. read more on http://aromasofkitchens.blogspot.in/2014/02/salt-vijaya-forum-mall.html

Went to Salt for lunch about a week back with 2 more ppl. We ordered for Tandoori Platter,Mutton Rogan Josh,Rotis,Aappam & naan. Since the starters were taking time to come,we were served tomato soup - on the house! It was a normal tomato soup, decent enough, but nothing wow about it. Then came the Tandoori plater which had a muttom sheek kebab, chicken kebab,Fish tandoori,Prawn tandoori.the portion was good enough for 3 ppl. The main course Mutton Rogan Josh was really really good. Happy we have such a good resto in this part of the city.

Went there for lunch today after reading couple of write-ups in CFG. This place lived upto its expectation. Impressive interiors with Indian Art & Photographs on the wall giving a feel like I'm in some place like TGIF or HRC! Spacious seatings too! Good to see such a standalone restaurant in this part of the city, though its in a mall. I was given a large menu card. Unpretentious as they said, but good varieties in both Veg & Non - Veg. It will be too much for a lonely eater & as a group it will be very nice to order too many dishes! They have a combo meal exactly for ppl like me in both Veg & Non-Veg! Bento Box! I ordered for a Non-Veg bento box which comes with 2 Non-veg items(1 piece dry item,1 gravy) + Small qty of Salad + Raita + 1 Roti + 1 bowl Steamed Rice+1/4 Pappad +1 Dessert+ 1 Drink. Chicken Tikka was the dry NV item today. It was a normal size piece, but the taste was bloody MIND BLOWING! Never tasted such juicy succulent tikka. I wished I had ordered a serving of this alone!!! next time on my wish list. It would have been nice if the piece was bit bigger or if it had 2 pieces. Mutton Chettinadu for gravy item,it had good amount of mutton pieces but too much pepper kinda over powered the overall taste. no complaints but a little less pepper will do a world of good. It went very well with roti & rice. Roti was soft & easy to tear, chew. Dal fry was just like home made & i liked it. Couldn't remember anything about the salad as it was just 2 spoonful :( i wonder why did they give 1/4 pappad.for the price of the combo 1 whole pappad wouldn't harm them in any way! I said this & got a full pappad! :) :) Hope they continue to do so. Mango mousse was the dessert,i don't like mango or mango flavour, nevertheless took a spoon full of the mousse, very mild mango flavor & surprise i emptied the whole thing in no time! Blue lagoon was the drink of the day & it too tasted good. Overall it was a good meal for a lonely eater like me. Service was attentive. Non-Ven bento Box costs Rs.384 incl of VAT + ST + SC(10%) Will visit with gang sometime soon to try the rest of the dishes in the menu. They accept Credit Cards.
