I had a chance to check out Sukh Sagar as a part of CFG meetup and had a wonderful time! Lovely place to be with friends and family, get togethers and simply have your evening snack. I have been to many sagars in bangalore and delhi, somehow the place didnt quite remind me of those. From what I understood from the menu, the restaurant is better known for its chaats and sandwiches. They also serve very good north indian dishes, loved the kashmiri naan and roti. The south indian fare is okay, I expected a typical karnataka style sambar and wasnt disappointed. The bhel puri was not to my liking, but loved the pav bhaji. The sandwiches were well toasted and a delight. Service is okay no complaints. I guess when you are in the company of foodies and people of similair interest, the experience is awesome no matter what. Will get back to the place when I can and try more dishes for sure.

As the name suggests, SukhSagar has been making customers happy for many many years with their exceptional and tasty vegetarian food.I always enjoy a nice tasty north indian meal and I was really looking forward to this one. I arrived at SukhSagar, Kilpauk to be greeted by a whole bunch of lovely people. Our hosts for the evening were Vinay and Vishnu and I should say, what a pleasing personality these two have!!We were immediately escorted to our looooong table and offered an amazingly refreshing Water Melon juice to beat the heat!!Wah, what a refersher that was. Soon after the juice, we were given a choice of soups to pick from - Manchow,Cream of Mushroom or Noodle soup. I picked the Manchow soup.I'm not a big soup fan so after a quick taste, I generously gave away my soup to my hungry fellow foodie.. :) The soup was good but slightly too salty for my taste. Moving on to the starters, we had a wide variety of items. Some of which disappeared even before I could click a picture.. :) Tandoori starters - Corn sheekh kebab - This was super yummy and moist.Disappeared in a jiffy. - Channa se bhara khumb - Channa stuffed in Mushroom. Not a big fan of mushrooms so I did not try this one.Heard from others that this was good too. - Achari Paneer tikka - This was one of the best starters.Soft, juicy paneer in a perfect blend of spices.Loved it!! Next in line were the chinese starters.Unlike out most Indianised Chinese dishes, our starters were tasty and crispy. We tried the chilly paneer and Veg Crispy.True to the name, both the dishes were good. Chat items were next on the menu.We were offered Bhel Puri, Dahi Puri and Pani Puri. The Dahi Puri and Pani puri reminded me of the time I went to Bombay just to try out their street food. The Bhel Puri was good but slightly soggy.I like it with a little bit of bite in it.. :D If you're already tired of reading, beware!!There's more to come. From up north, we went straight down south.Next to try was Idli and Sambhar Vada. The Sambar Vada was good and tasty. The Idlis were super soft and melt in the mouth.More along the texture of Rava Idli.We also had a taste of their grilled sandwich. The best part of this sandwich was the caramalised onions and the crispy grilled layer. By this time, we were all stuffed and ready for desserts when our kind hosts come back to tell us that there was more to come.Wow, our main course was yet to make it to the table. So, after some chitter chatter and making some more space in our tummy, we were all geared up for the main course.Out came all our waiters with trays of rotis, naans and a variety of gravies. The rotis were hot and soft. The mushroom gravy and paneer butter masala were very very good.We also had a taste of their vegetable biryani which was well cooked with long grains of rice and nicely cut vegetables. We were still not done, the heroes of the table arrived - Chola Batura and Pav Bhaji.Inspite of being stuffed, these two dishes literally disappeared. And we were finally done!! Good food , fun and laughter will always leave you asking for more but not today. Not one more grain of rice could've entered my mouth. :) but alas, there's always space for dessert. That's another part of the stomach isn't it?? ;)We had a wide variety of desserts - Ice cream, Falooda, Gadbad and what not!!! All the desserts were good and wholesome. On the whole, it was a fun evening with loads of talking, laughter and photography!!The food was the hero of the day and nothing like being welcome by a smile and being served by some amazingly courteous guys. SukhSagar - Definitely the ocean of culinary delights and keeping customers delighted.Worth the visit!!!

Contrary to popular belief, veg food is quite yummy. Dont believe me? ask some of my friends who are staunch non veggies but have been enjoying the veg fare at the new line of restaurants in town. Yep, right from the horse's mouth you see. Next time I drag you to a veg joint, think twice before making a comment.. I just might let you starve while I devour some of the yumm fare. Where is this convo headed? Well, am all set to brag about one more Veg restaurant. Not new, infact they have been creating waves for quite a few years, in Chennai & Bangalore. Infact, if you've been in Anna Nagar, or driven down the main road, you will have spotted the giant red building. That was where Sukh Sagar was. but now, they have a new address, they are on Harley's Road, Kilpauk. Woohoo, close by home, walking distance! Renowned for their veg fare and chaat, I was looking forward to this visit. As you walk in, there is an open floor with a kitchen on the side for the early morning hunger pangs or chaat kicks. And then you find a small stairway tucked away leading to the Fine Dining area on the 1st floor, and a floor above houses the Banquet hall. By the time I got to the hall, most of them troops were already there. Found a seat beside Vinay & Vishnu, the men who own the place. The evening began with a glass of chilled watermelon juice. We were told we could order what we wanted and eventually sample the main dishes. Read more... http://aromasofkitchens.blogspot.in/2013/05/sukh-sagar-kilpauk-chennai.html

Sukh Sagar has been a very well known brand, which was started in 1962 as a juice shop in Mumbai, which later on ventured to be one of the well-known fast food places not only in India, but also in a few Countries around the world. This was an outing I was looking forward for after 4days of being at home with viral fever. Thanks to my friends who insisted that I was good to go. We were welcomed with a chilled glass of fresh watermelon juice. Followed by soup of our choice Manchow/ noodle /mushroom. I opted for the Manchow soup and was not let down, the soup had a very balanced and nice flavor. Next were the starters. The starters stumped us. The Paneer Achari Kebab was the stealer as far was the Indian starters were concerned. The Corn Sheekh Kebab was next in line. Why next cause I thought it was a little dry. The Mushroom Bhara Kebab was not my type, it was sweet and did not go well with most of us. The Chinese starters were good too. The paneer chilli was better than the crispy veggie, simply because the crispy did not have any flavor and was a bit salty. Paneer chilly was simply awesome. Next came in the chat. Dahi puri was good and according to me cannot go wrong. Behl puri had too much Mint flavor. The pani puri water was the high light. In most of the chat places, my guess is they use ready made powder to make the water. This water tasted as if it was made with fresh mint leaves/pudhina. That was a pure stealer. I loved it! Pav Bhaji was good. Chola Batura, the chola was a little salty, but else was good. The veg grilled sandwich took the cake. Super nice taste and Excellent flavor Loved it! The south Indian tiffin was next . The Sambar vada was good, I like my sambar with that little jaggery taste. The Idly was excellent, I have never eaten a rice idly like that in Chennai. It was just like rava idly. I loved and loved it. By now we were all too full and were not ready for more. But there were still many more dishes to go. We planned to go slow. So the main course was one spoon each of Dal Makhani, paneer butter masala and mushroom masala with roti and Nan. Followed by Veg Biryani. The Dal Makhani was a little salty and the richness of makhni was missing in there. The Paneer and mushroom was good. The Biryani was the only let down. It was more like a pulao. Desserts that I tried out. All 1 spoon each. Royal Falooda – Nice and as good as any falooda I have had in town. The gadbad is a very mangalorean dessert and have not seen it anywhere else other than in Karnataka. Mangalore gives the best gadbad, so I would not compare it to that one in mangalore. The malai kulfi was rich and had a smooth texture, one of the best kulfi’s that I have had in Chennai. The Sukh Sagar special dessert was nice too. I loved nice and colorful. Over all experience was very good. Car park – Good Ambience – Good (it’s a new place) Food – Good Service – Good Fun evening with like-minded people.
