Was here with a friend for lunch over the weekend. The place was packed beyond imagination. Because we were just 2, we were shown to our seats immediately. The service was impeccable, as always. Food was brilliant. My pick of the lot was the sweets this time - aamras, jalebis with rabdi and shrikand. Top notch service meant that multiple servings of the sweet on my plate and I could only gape and nod and eat. My mouth and tummy stuffed, but there was no heaviness. The chapatis & puri were just the way they should be. The kichdi though was a tad different this time. It included vegetables and felt a wee bit spicy - I loved it. The paneer aravali was the pick of the sabzis and of course the kadhi and the aloo sabzi. Totally satisfied. The bill for 2 came to 837. And now that it's closer to home, more visits are likely.

Sweaty summer afternoon in chennai and we were invited for a Royal lunch at Rajdhani that opened its 3rd outlet in chennai at the Phoenix city Mall at Velachery. This is the first time I was tasting the much talked about Rajdhani food. And what a way of doing it with like minded people. The Thali consisted of many items that I had tasted in the past when I was in Mumbai and all these were more of home made authentic food. My reviews of the lot that I had in Rajdhani were Welcome Drink – Both the Keri Panna and the Thandai was good, expect that keeping the chennai heat in mind could have been served chilled. Farsan – Garlic Dhokla and the cheese pakoda were not only good, but was something different from the usual run of the mill menu. Special of the day – Dal Dhokla was nice, but the Aam ki Launji was divine. The dish that i thought was a little different and very good, since i have never tasted it before was Koyya Roti with Aam ka chutney, awesome combination and Fab taste. As far as the main course was concerned, frankly there was nothing that was bad, but there were so many items guess i could not figure out one from another The gujarati Kadhi and Dal were wee bit sweet. I know they are usually sweet, but these were very sweet, but that was not a concern, since they did have the normal dal and kadhi. Coming to the Desserts – The Pineapple Halwa and Crispy Jalebi stole the show. The Aam Ras though we were told were made of fresh mango did not taste so. Overall Experience was good, Hospitality was very good, ambience was decent too, Kitchen was nice and clean is what i was told by my friends. My two bit - If menu could be of multiple choice instead of forcing all dishes on a person in one visit. The person can eat a few dishes and enjoy it and come next time for more. The prices also could be reduced accordingly. Thank you and all the Best.

Rajdhani , fine-dining restaurant and well known for its lavish rajasthani thali, recently opened its third branch in phoenix market city,velachery...We been invited through Chennaifoodguide .I been to rajdhani many times, its one of the favorite restaurant in chennai...Of course,I have taken all my best friends here for the standard quality and some generosity of food... As said none of the dishes are repeated and 22464 delicacies were served in 72 different rotating menus..The menu of the day is displayed at entrance which is the same for their branches all over india The keri phanna (smoky raw mango drink) and a rich badam milk were served.. The chef Hemji discussed about the food and took us to the kitchen..Each dish is made in concerned care without the jiffy/fast food cooking style..Some of the dishes like jalebi made by experts, Dishes like Aam raas travels all the way from mumbai in rajasthan train everyday!.. Phulkas are made by a team of workers using rolling hot tawa and a firing grill.. One of my favourite dish was dal bhaati churma...In a small plate, the dal curry is poured, with crispy dal vada is broken by hands, and churma -a sweet crumbles sprinkled on top and some generous amount of ghee is poured !!...Its just magnificent dish i ever had in rajasthani cuisine.. Nearly 72 dishes in a meal with different types of kadhi, subjis, rotis and desserts... There is no ala carte to choose the dishes of our own and they offer business meals take aways too...The ambiance is wonderful and the service is at its best... The question "Recommend a pure vegetarian[north indian] restaurant in chennai" would have only one answer if someone were to ask me. NO, it is not Kailash Parbat or Cream Center, the only name to come out of my mouth would be "Rajdhani". Yes, the restaurant has not only impressed me, but also my family and many others, some of who happen to be staunch non vegetarians. That is how good they are! The 1st time I visited Rajdhani was the day they launched in Express Avenue. I had gone for a movie with friends and we hopped across to the food court and decided to have dinner here. One warning I must throw out is "make sure you are really hungry and your stomach is really empty" when visiting Rajdhani. The food here is that amazing and you will want to try out each of the dishes, which means you will be bursting in your seams if you stuff yourself. Food served here is pure veg, made with Ghee and the finest of spices and ingredients, and light on the masalas. Rajdhani-no, iam not talking about the express that plies between Chennai and Delhi but about the restaurant which opened its 3rd branch in the Chennai city at Phoenix Market city, Velachery. As the invite for the launch hit the CFG page from the event organizers, a group of us planned to land there for tasting their famed Thali for lunch. We were given a traditional welcome by applying a sandalwood tikka on our foreheads by a turbaned man in traditional Rajasthan outfit which made me feel as if iam entering some Rajasthani palace in Jaipur/Udaipur(may be watching too many TLC programs is not good!!) Our welcome drink was Keri panna, which I gave a miss in favor of the other drink Thandai, which tasted heavenly and refreshing, especially having travelled in sweltering heat of Chennai! They don’t have a la carte option and there is a set menu which is served in traditional thali, unlimitedly! Starter was garlic Dhokla and a mirchi shaped samosa, both were very unusual from what we generally have and tasted very good! I could have completed my entire meal with the thandaai and unlimited dhoklas/samosas but since it’s my first visit there, I wanted to try their main course too  Read more: http://lallisnalabaagham.blogspot.in/2013/04/rajdhani-board-culinary-express-to.html

At Rajdhani , Pheonix Mall last night, the food was absolutely brilliant served with warmth and care.Even though vegetarian is not my cup of tea, it was a meal that left me licking my fingers. We were welcomed not only into the restaurant but also in their kitchen and were explained how fresh food is prepared for every lunch and dinner. A humbling moment was when their Maharaj walked to each table, hands folded and bowing down, asking if the food was all right and was happy to explain the recipes to eager ladies who wanted to know how the Lady finger was so green & how the Pineapple halwa was so yummy. I was amazed to know that the menu is not repeated for 3 months save a few dishes we all want to see everyday. And yes, Tsunami did hit them last night, but that tsunami left contented and very happy with beaming smiles and joyful promises of returning back... Thank you Team Rajdhani!

Visited Rajdhani two days ago. I'm talking about the new outlet that opened up at Phoenix Mall, Velachery. As always, they had only one meal option on offer, which happens to be their unlimited, fully loaded North Indian Thali. Turned out to be amazing. 8 kinds of sabjis, including Dham Aloo, Marvadi Khadi and Kadai Paneer. Parathas, Phulkas and two other Indian breads. Four starters, plus papad and other similar items. Great kichadi, rice and loads of Ghee and Butter on everything if you ask for it. Some amazing pickles and masala stuffed chillis. Best part, since we only went on Day 2, the restaurant handed us a bill with a big '0' on it. They surprised us by telling us that the trial period was on for the entire day and that all meals were free. Amazing service, amazing food. A must visit for veggies who like a variety of rich, veg North Indian food. Each Thali comes upto 300 Rs or so with tax. Even their outlet at Express Avenue is very, very good. As all rajdhani outlets, even this one had great value for money!
